Maciej Kimel

He began climbing at the age of 13, and ever since, has been boldly collecting experiences in mountain ranges across the globe. At the heart of his practice lies a spirit of exploration. Despite his young age, Maciek has already completed six expeditions to high-altitude peaks and climbed extensively in regions such as the Alps, Caucasus, Patagonia, the Dolomites, and the mountains of Norway.

Yet, despite his global pursuits, his heart remains in the Tatras. There, he completed the first solo winter ascent of the Kazalnica Pillar, a demanding route he climbed over three days. In 2022, he achieved a record-breaking solo of the iconic “Expander” enchainment, finishing in just 19 hours and 43 minutes.

Maciek has twice attempted a winter ascent of Trango Tower—so far without success. One of his most notable high-altitude accomplishments is the ascent of “Just Breathe” (M5, WI4 R/X) on Chobutse (6,686 m), which he climbed with Wadim Jabłoński. The ascent earned them the prestigious Kolos Award in the Alpinism category.

In late autumn 2024, alongside Michał Król and Mariusz Madej, he established a new route, “Butterfly Effect” (6b, M6) on Kyajo Ri (6,187 m) in the Himalayas.

Despite frequent expeditions, Maciek places strong emphasis on training and sport climbing. Outside of the vertical world, he is the co-owner of a company specializing in loft-style furniture design and manufacturing. He is also passionate about cycling and has recently begun exploring mountain running.

Privately, he’s an unapologetic connoisseur of deeply questionable humor.
