BABSI VIGL
Live with passion and don’t take yourself too seriously.
While trying to live up to these values, I split my time between the U.S. and Europe, climbing. From freeing boulder blocks from thick layers of moss in the woods where I grew up to putting up new alpine climbs in the Himalayas and the Alps, I developed not only a deep passion for climbing and wild places, but also started to build my professional life around it.
Today I work in Austria as an OT specialized in climbing injuries, mentor the Female Austrian Expedition Team as a mountain guide, and communicate about the alpine as a writer and ambassador with Patagonia.
I love climbing in the ranges of Alaska and Patagonia as much as in my backyards in Montana and Austria. I value not only the playfulness and exploration a life in the mountains brings, but also the new layers of adventure we can discover when we take a perspective on equality, community, and sustainability.
Evening Talk “Radically Normal”
There’s a fascinating duality to change: it can be years in the making, and then suddenly things move almost too fast, and it’s hard to grasp that it’s truly here.
I’d like to share the journey of bringing the first all-female expedition team of Austria to life, and what it looks like to go on expedition by public transport.
Shaping a life around a passion for climbing, adding your own voice to the landscape of storytelling, and believing in and working towards change holds a duality as well — it can feel both natural and radical.
Workshop “From Gym to Crag”
Do you love to climb and are psyched to bring your gym skills confidently to the rock? Is there something that limits you outdoors, or something you’d like to learn or refine?
In this class we will build and discuss the basic skills you need to have as much fun climbing outside as you have inside — both on lead and on top rope. We will focus on safety, anchors, route reading, and share tips and tricks along the way.
